An online project such as GoNorth! takes you on a virtual field trip. It fills the classroom screens with visual images of far away places. It brings real life situations into the classroom. How exciting! Collaboration sites such as ePals allow teachers to link up each student with a partner in a distant location to whom the student can write letters to. This is a great way to learn about other cultures. It will also improve writing and vocabulary. Headliners allow students to share written and artistic products on websites. Although these sites prove beneficial, teachers would still need to be cautious about online activities. Teachers are reminded that when students are authorized to communicate via internet, a teacher must be present and monitor conversations. It would be wise to use mask for picture identity and/or fake names.
