Audio files are sound files that play a sound when clicked on. A mp3 is an example of an audio file. A podcast is a digital media file or a series of such files that is distributed over the internet using syndication feeds for playback on portable media players or personal computers. It is a specific type of webcast. The difference between the two is that an audio file is a single audio file and an audio podcast is a collection of audio files in a RSS feed. Audio files/podcast can allow students to learn a foreign language skill. Or students can record themselves explaining how they solved a problem to other students. iTunes give examples of podcasts for educational use in learning a foreign language. I learned that it is a free and easy way to learn to speak another language simply by hearing it spoken to you without having to pay for it. In the digital library of the Cobb County website, it gives you examples of student created podcast projects. I learned that students can be creative with this as well and use it as a note taker or a reflection for clarification. Audio files are a great way in using with students who have limited hearing and vision. For audio, it is necessary to provide a text transcript of the spoken audio which can be provided in html format or in a downloadable text file. Copyright compliance music files should fall under the guidelines of the District Administrative rule and Fair Use.

Propaganda.com also allows you to record your voice and add music for background. Below is an audio file that I have created using Audacity. My purpose for this example is to increase the listening skills of my students by having them listen to a poem read and then make a reflection on how the piece made them feel. Students will understand the English standard ELACC3W8: Recall information from experiences or gather information from print and digital sources; take brief notes on sources and sort evidence into provided categories. Background music is credited to soundzabound of the Cobb County Website Digital Library.
